K&M Engaged for Botswana Wastewater Treatment Plant

September 27, 2019

K&M’s Policy and Regulation practice is working with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to help alleviate the water crisis in Gaborone, Botswana. Led by Nils Janson, managing director of policy and regulation, K&M is supporting the IFC guide the Water Utilities Corporation develop a wastewater reclamation plant on PPP basis. The plant would treat effluent from the Glen Valley wastewater treatment plant.

Serving as the project’s lead transaction advisor, the IFC engaged K&M to carry out technical and financial due diligence, which includes an economic and value for money assessment and a financial and fiscal impact assessment.

Gaborone, Botswana’s capital city, is suffering from a potable water shortage due to population growth and a drought. The Water Utilities Corporation hopes that the new plant will supply 20 percent of the city’s water.
