K&M Reflects on 2019 Successes

January 21, 2020

2019 was momentous for K&M Advisors. Last year the firm was selected for an impressive 32 new contracts, bringing its all-time total up to more than 350 projects across 90 countries. 19 of the new contracts were under its Policy and Regulation practice, which was formed in January of last year.

Adapting to evolving energy markets, K&M is proud to offer its tried and true expertise in pioneering technologies. Last year the firm was engaged for new projects in biomass, mini grids, and solar. “K&M is continuing to provide sound advisory services to clients in our core expertise, and we are showing them that we can also provide premier advisory services in newer markets.” said Mr. Bradford Dunn, Business Development Manager.

One of K&M’s 2019 solar engagements was working with WEB Aruba, the island nation’s water and energy utility, to support it offering solar solutions to its customers. Led by the Strategic Services practice under the direction of Mr. Alfonso Guzman, K&M is developing a solar PV business model for WEB. Last year, WEB also engaged Strategic Services in a K&M led consortium to support its LNG import terminal project.

Under its Policy and Regulation practice led by Mr. Nils Janson, K&M expanded to projects in water and wastewater. One of the practice’s many first year successes was a feasibility study for insuring Caribbean water utilities against climate related risks. The Policy and Regulation practice is also working with the IFC to help alleviate the potable water shortage in Gaborone, Botswana.

The Transaction and Technical Services practices jointly celebrated successfully procuring an IPP developer for a 180 MW baseload power plant in Guam. “Lenny and I were able to work seamlessly together to provide the client with the advice required to select a qualified sponsor and successfully negotiate and execute all of the project agreements.” said Mr. Derek Martin, Managing Director of Transaction Services.

The Transaction Services practice also supported the Kenya Electricity Generating Company’s successful release of an RFQ for a 140 MW geothermal power project.

K&M thanks its clients, staff, and collaborators for contributing to 2019’s successes, and looks forward to continuing its momentum through 2020.
