K&M was engaged to conduct a power supply options analysis for Columbia Falls Aluminum Company (CFAC). CFAC’s electric supply requirement was 350 MWe at nearly a 100% load factor supplied at the time by the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA). Due to losses of both hydroelectric and thermal generation capability system wide and BPA’s curtailment of CFAC’s power supply by 25%, CFAC had concerns over future supply and reliability. K&M’s scope of work included: analyzing BPA as a future power supplier, identifying and evaluating alternate existing power sources, and reviewing CFAC energy management operations.
